'EKS logs compared to Kubernetes

For research purposes that will make use of the logs, we are looking for less time consuming options other than creating our own Kubernetes.
EKS seems like a good option, but do CloudWatch logs (or any other logs avalible) give the same results as expected from our own Kubernetes?
And in general, what are the drawbacks of using EKS (except for not being free)?
