Barcode Reader Communication protocol

Question

Hi My name is Puvan and I am here to seek for help and solution for the problem that I am facing. Basically I just joined as software engineer in a company and I am a fresh graduate. The company are doing automated material handling conveyor and my job is on software part to automate the system. One of the customer project is to integrate the conveyor system with Barcode reader. The software system is build using WPF framework using XAML and C# as backend coding. As I know the barcode reader using ethernet configuration. Now my question is how does a barcode reader communication protocol works as I am new to this programming and the the technologies, I am facing problem to understand it. I done a research in online but seems I did not get a clear picture of it. Again the question is how a barcode reader communication protocol works and how it integrate with the system. It will be so helpful if anyone can help to explain this and I am appreciate for your help
