How to use pluginManagement in Maven?

Question

this is my code from my pom file:

                <artifactId>spring-boot-dependencies</artifactId>

    </dependencyManagement>

The plugin spring-boot-maven-plugin can not know the version. But the spring-boot-starter can know the version from spring-boot-dependencies.

Wanted to know if it's good practice to do that and what would be the best way to do that?
