'Can setuptools handle a dependence on an autogenerated file?

I am attempting to write a setuptools that includes a SWIG FIle.

mystuff_module = Extension(
    '_mystuff',
    sources=['mystuff.i'],
    ...
)

The file mystuff.i file includes an autogenerated SWIG file mymacros.i.

Is there a well to tell setuptools that it needs to create mymacros.i, and that it needs to create it before executing the SWIG command?
