'What´s the difference between importing data into Excel by using "from web" and APIs

I hope you are well.

What´s the difference between importing data from a website using "from web" and then copy the URL and select the table and using "from web" and then select API? Is the difference that with an API you do not have to refresh the table you import into Excel?
