'Smart card removal and web page actions

I have a question about smart card removal and web page logout.

I know that fido2 mfa is working as a two step mechanism for login purposes, but is is possible to use a smart card (Yubikey or alternative) as a session mechanism.

What I mean by that is it possible to logout user from web page if smartcard is not attached to system ?
