'Out-of-sample vs in-sample forecast
I'm confused about what part of my data is in or out of sample forecast.
I understand that out-of-sample is the data I don't have but want to forecast, and in-sample forecast is the data I have and use it to fit the data.
However does this mean for example, if I split my data 70:30, fitting 70% of the data and then predict the last 30%, is the last 30% 'out of sample' or is out-of-sample literally meaning the data I don't have and isn't part of my entire dataset?
