'Make a pdf file (potentially including a virus) secure to open without protected mode

sometimes I have to open pdf files from unknowm source and then print them.

I use Adobe Acrobat in protected mode and disabled Java Script. When I want to print or mark something I have to disable the protected mode.

I have got a second program to open pdf docs. Its called Nuance Power PDF Advanced. This program has the feature to clean up the document to make it safe.

Before it starts the work it shows me a list of things to delete.

Here is a translation from deepl:

Document cleanup removes hidden data and metadata to prevent disclosure of confidential information. The following elements are removed:

  • bookmarks
  • comments
  • document attachments
  • deleted content
  • targets
  • embedded thumbnails
  • form fields and actions
  • all JavaScript elements
  • links
  • metadata
  • Embedded non-displayable data

I am not sure how secure this proces and the final output is. So I decided to use Sandboxie Plus to do the job and safe the output outside of sandboxie.

Is this enough to make these files safe and open them in unprotected mode in Adobe Acrobat?
