'InfluxDB data -- where does the data go if you forget to assign disk partition to the service?
Context:
- Working on a Debian 10 server
- Recently collected data in InfluxDB on this server; forgot to mount the service to disk partition
- A day after data collection started, the server crashed because /var directory was at a use% of 100%; I'm assuming all the InfluxDB went into this directory and in turn, the directory filled up and the server crashed, as a result
- To prevent this from happening in the future......assigned the service to a disk partition, as I should have to begin with
Current Issue:
- Using the "df-h" output.....cannot seem to knock the "/var" directory use% below 99%
Attempted Resolutions:
Rotated and deleted logs from the server
Deleted logs without rotating as a pre-requisite
Emptied the biggest sub-directories within the /var directory
Questions:
- None of the contents I have been able to find -- "hidden" or otherwise -- or delete from the /var directory have had any InfluxDB-related data.....where could I find data collected pre-mounting-service-to-disk? Thinking deleting this data will aid in dropping the /var disk utilization below 99%.
Any insight into the above scenario or questions would be much appropriate. Please let me know if there any questions pertaining to the question or scenario.
