'Importing an XML spreadsheet into Access

Here is my problem. I have over 40 Excel XML files with several columns each (A - BE). But I only need two columns which disappear when I try to import them into Access (External Data (tab) / New Data Source / From File / XML File). Access divides the spreadsheet up into several tables regrettably. Some fields are visible and I have read that I may need to use "Transform".

Is sign "Transform" the best way? Can I just import the two fields I need or maybe just one of the tables it creates from the single spreadsheet? Do I have to know the data types for all the fields?

The fields I need are SSN and a date field.

Also, I have access to Altova XMLSPY if that can help.

Any help appreciated!

Truly, Wendy
