'Display Order Status on Order Confirmation Page

I want to display the order status on the Order Confirmation page, or Thank You page.

We sometimes sell products in person, and it would be great to be able to see the order status as soon as they checkout, incase the payment doesn't go through.

I've tried searching for a shortcode or code on Google, and have tried searching for a hook that will display the order status. I'd rather not install a whole plugin for this one little piece of functionality.
