'Decoding Prescription Barcodes on Prescription Stickers in the US
I have noticed that on drugs we commonly find an NDC barcode which we can find information on using the FDA online NDC search database.
I also noticed that pharmacists (like CVS) also apply a prescription sticker with another barcode. I am wondering if there is a standard for such prescription barcode on those stickers, or if every pharmacy in the US has a different standard for this. For CVS, I have noticed it's something which looks like a CODE_128 barcode, but was not able to decode anything from it. I'm wondering if this is simply an internal number they use for prescriptions, and they can use it to query the data from their own personal database, or if the posology is encoded in there?
Thanks for any clue on this.
