'Can't write to USB disk when booting to linux from other USB disk

I'm trying to write to an auto mounted USB disk after booting to a live distro, in this case Kubuntu. But I've tried others... When I do, any USB disk I have (that is writable when I boot normally) is read only. Root is the owner of these mounts and I can't seem to get past it.

My ultimate goal is to be able to use these USB disks while booted to a live distro. Also, I am trying to backup my entire computer to this disk as a precaution before editing the partition table (I've done this plenty of times, just want to be extra careful)
