'Arch Linux - Issues setting up grub on a manual install on Vmware Workstation [closed]

I'm new to Arch but a long time Ubuntu user trying something new out (hence why its going into VMWare Workstation and eventually into esxi). Anyway, the fdisk work was easy, the pacstap install went well, setting up swap, chroot, all that went well. Well grub install went badly. Do I need to install vmware-tools/open-vmware tools to not hit the walls here?

I guess what I kept hitting is I couldn't get grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg to ever work. I can do a grub install to /dev/sda/ but it won't see my Arch install and I assume the mkconfig will allow me to point it to /dev/sda3 partition aka /mnt with the install.

I also tried the archinstall script to no avail to let it do all this work for me.
